Forget the Beatles — you can now look forward to September 9 for another legendary team in video games: Sonic & Knuckles. Shacknews reports the standard work Genesis game will hit Xbox Live Arcade a week from Wednesday, and it’ll contain the bonus content you could unlock in the previous three Sonic games through the infamous “cart stacking” feature.

If you never played the Genesis gamble (or perhaps were too young to care… was it really passage back in 1994?), the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge was built to grant the three previous Sonic game cartridges to plug into the ~most of it, while the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge was in the Genesis (on that account, “cart stacking”). Doing so allowed you to play through the older Sonic games through new features and content, and you’ll be able to carry into effect the same (albeit in a less convoluted manner) on your 360 grant that you own Sonic 1, 2, and 3 on XBLA as well.

The make easy includes the follow:

Sonic the Hedgehog: Unlocks the game “Blue Sphere,” the reward/Chaos Emerald level from Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Lets you put in action as Knuckles, complete with the ability to get to previously not to be reached areas of the game, and new power-ups added for playing in the manner that Knuckles.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Play as Knuckles in Sonic 3, and in like manner changes the flow of the game and connects it directly to Sonic & Knuckles, in the way that that you can play the two seamlessly!
