Nintendo Planning DSi Speak Channel?

DSi
Could Nintendo have ~ing planning on launching a voice chat application for the DSi willingly? Sure seems that way, as Nintendo themselves slipped a mention of a “DSi Speak” strait on the customer support page of their official website (via Edge-Online).

The mention of the channel has since been removed, but the page originally learned, “To redeem a Nintendo DSi Download Ticket number, such as in the place of the Nintendo DSi Speak Channel, enter the number off the Nintendo DSi Download Ticket in ‘Settings and Features’ away of the main Nintendo DSi Shop page, then select Nintendo DSi Download Ticket.”

More than probable this would be similar to the Wii Speak Channel, which uses the Wii Speak microphone accessory to allow up to four people to chat with each other. A tone over IP option on the DSi would certainly add an attractive new element to the handheld, but obviously this wouldn’t exactly proceed it a direct competitor to the iPhone. Still, everyone loves added functionality, appropriate?

CVG contacted Nintendo for confirmation, who only responded that “it’s town talk as nothing has been announced.” Doesn’t mean nothing will be announced, though, so we’ll see what happens.
