December 1st, 2009 / No Comments » / by admin

“Really Sid Meier is the excepting that guy who does it reliably. And I wish more people would learn the lessons from the path he does it. Because I’ve looked at some of the other offerings and they emphasize the tedium and the haze of war.”

“You have to fight these endless battles. And I put on’t want to play war. I want to play Civilization. And Civilization, you be in actual possession of to be able to fight, you have to be prepared to unsheathe the sword, but the main business of Civilization is being civilized - creating refuse, building. That’s what I want to do.”

Card has been involved in the video valorous industry for a long time now, having contributed to The Dig, The Secret of Monkey Island, and besides recently, Shadow Complex. He is, of course, best known for his operate on Ender’s Game, and his controversial political views.

As in favor of turn-based strategy, there’s Civilization IV: Colonization and Civilization Revolution, as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but of which came out last year. Either one is apt to store your busy for a very long time.

December 1st, 2009 / No Comments » / by admin

Netflix Xbox 360
Following the annunciation that Netflix instant watch support is coming to the PlayStation 3, you may bring forth thought that Microsoft would consider dropping its Xbox Live Gold demand for Netflix watching. Nuh-uh. Despite the fact that any PlayStation 3 proprietor with a Netflix account will be able to stream content generous of charge (aside from the cost of Netflix, of course), Microsoft is sticking to its fire-arms and insisting that Xbox Live Gold remains great value.

Speaking by IGN, a spokesperson for Microsoft stated, “The Netflix experience on Xbox Live is unique and reflects our imprisonment for social entertainment. We believe we offer an experience today that is a generation ahead of what others are offering. For a little over $4 a month Xbox LIVE Gold society is hands-down the best value in home entertainment, and gives you debarring access multi-player gaming and early demos as well as Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm, 1 vs 100 and besides.”

Watching Netflix on Xbox 360 currently has the edge, assuming you don’t mind paying for Live. You can watch things with friends who acquire Netflix over Xbox Live, and there’s a dedicated Netflix putting on on the system itself, as opposed to the disc you’ll want to have in your PS3 to access Netflix. But for some, having to pop in a disc and watch with only those in the place with you aren’t big enough of drawbacks to continue remunerative for Xbox Live — and it’s hard to blame them. If Microsoft does indeed close up of admission for Xbox Live, they’re going to receive one less exclusive feature to dangle in front of prospective customers.

November 1st, 2009 / No Comments » / by admin

DSi LL
Usually commencing iterations of popular portable devices get smaller (anyone remember the Game Boy Micro?), if it were not that Nintendo is bucking tradition with the DSi LL — a new interpretation of their gaming handheld that adds an extra 1/4 of each inch to the screens. But that’s not all it adds: According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the viewing flare for the DSi LL has been improved as well with the intention of making it a spectator system (via Joystiq).

“Nintendo DSi LL features not only bigger monitor screens,” Iwata said in a financial results briefing, “unless an improved view angle on the screens to make it the principal portable system that can be enjoyed with people surrounding the gamer.”

The essence is to allow people next to the person playing to master a better view of what’s happening on the screens, creating a “recent play style where those who are surrounding the game player can also join in one way or the other to the play for money play.” While the intention is probably for new games to have existence designed specifically to be played this way on the DSi LL, Iwata likewise mentioned the Japan-only Tomodachi Collection as a currently released of ~ that can already benefit from surrounding viewers.

“Because communications and interactions with other family members and your friends are one of the lock opener elements of the game, the fun aspect is intensified when other lower classes can watch how you play in comparison with when you are playing ~ means of yourself,” said Iwata.

We know the impulse is usually to balk at this kind of screwy idea, but considering how developers bring forth consistently come up with surprisingly creative ways to use otherwise temporal-seeming features on the DS and DSi, we’re going to bound the standard phase of incredulity and proceed directly to cautious optimism as being this new age of Handheld Spectatorship.
